0 7Loved for their colors and ever-smiling beak, the secret life of parrotfish is more interesting than you'd expect. From females changing their sex and becoming alpha males to their ability to produce a mucus sleeping bag at night to protect them from predators, parrotfish are quite remarkable. You can even thank parrotfish for the sand at your favorite beach.
2 8The fantastic diving found off the Dumaguete area of Negros Oriental, Philippines will delight any diver. Macro fans will find fantastic muck diving right offshore, and a shore boat ride to Apo Island nearby provides great wide angle opportunities with fantastic coral and lots of fish.
1 3The Dominican Republic is one of the most visited islands in the Caribbean and has one of the largest coastlines in the Caribbean. What does that mean for divers? It’s easy to get to, has plenty of places to stay, and has enough diving to require multiple trips to see it all.
0 3With a country motto of, “Beautiful by Nature,” you wouldn’t find anything less than stunning, above and below water, in the Turks and Caicos Islands.
0 7It’s not every day that you find yourself underwater with a crocodile. Yes, I was warned there might be a juvenile croc in the cenote, and that he was diver friendly, but nothing quite gets the heart pumping like finding yourself in a cavern with a croc!

1 1The buoyancy control device, or BCD, is a key component of any scuba diving kit. It allows a diver to add and release air to control buoyancy; it secures the tank and provides pockets and D-rings to attach and carry accessories like flashlights, emergency signalling devices and more.
0 2Part 2 on dive computers - what to look for and what you need to know to use a dive computer safely.
0 2Diving and photography are my passions and I've been lucky enough to be diving since I was 15 years old. Currently I'm a PADI IDC Staff Instructor and have been instructing in the Caribbean, Hawaii, and the South Pacific for 9 years and have a USCG captain's license. I love sharing the underwater world through words and pictures and whenever possible, showing people my favorite dive sites.
