Darwin Island in the Galapagos is one of the few places in the world where adult whale sharks are ever seen. Only one pregnant whale shark has - ever - been examined by scientists. That shark was caught in a fishery in Taiwan back in 1995. Basically, everything we know about whale shark reproduction comes from that singular female. And what those scientists found was pretty amazing: 304 tiny (50-60 cm) pups! That's almost twice as many as any other shark species.
