The false jacopever or Cape redfish (Sebastes capensis) is a marine fish found only in waters off the western coast of South Africa, Tristan da Cunha and southern South America (in depths of 20 to 275 metres).
It is a demersal fish with a coloration in reddish or brown.
Sebastes capensis is a viviparous species, which means it retains the eggs internally until they hatch.
I took this photo during a research trip to Chilean Patagonia in spring 2015.
