The PlayStation Portable (or PSP for short) is the brand name for Sony's first handheld console. It was first introduced in Japan in 2004 and then made available in the United States, Europe, and other parts of the world in 2005. The PlayStation Portable, as the name implies, is a handheld Sony console. The 7th generation of portable Sony consoles was the main rival to Nintendo's Nintendo DS.
The PlayStation Portable was released in 2003, which made it the most powerful handheld console ever. As the most prominent rival to Nintendo DS, it was also the only console with a substantial weight advantage, as well as the only console that was thought to be a genuine threat. Nokia N-Gage and New Geo pocket, which failed to appeal to a huge number of purchasers, were seen as failures. Sony's first handheld console, the PlayStation Portable ROMs, was the only console that used Universal Media Disc or UMD to play games and other media files.
