So, after much pondering and weighing the pros & con’s, we have decided to start an internship/mentorship program.
You maybe wondering what the “con’s” to having an intern are (free labour, no?) - well actually its not quite that simple.
In order for an internship to work, a lot of time must be dedicated to the intern, and as many of you know, time is money.
Anyhow, after much contemplation, I have decided that we will start a mentorship program and DO IT RIGHT.
Below you should find all the answers to any of the questions you may have.
DiveAdvisor is a social directory & communication tool built specifically for the Scuba Diving industry. Its quite an extensive project, here are some highlights:
- Over 700, paid for & custom written articles written, covering the entire planet
- A thriving publication/blog ‘Sub2o’ with a team of writers & photographers
- 6000 + dive shop business listings with ability to claim and manager by owners
- 20,000 + dive ‘sites’ i.e: dive locations, editable a la ‘wikipedia’
- 1100 + marine animals with pictures & scientific data
- Users are able to create a blog a la tumblr or wordpress
- Users can maintain a digital ‘log book’ of their dives
- Users can publish photographs or videos
- Users can follow each other, dive shops, or countries
- A social element - ‘divestream’, much like a tumblr feed
- Mobile Applications on Apple & iTunes
- Currently over 5000 registered users
- Jan 1st 2015 diveadvisor will move away from ‘beta’ version into full launch
- Presence on twitter (over 4000 followers), Instagram (3200+), Tumblr (1100+), G+ (500+) Facebook (1200)
The role of the intern will be to work with the diveadvisor team to innovate and grow the social media presence of diveadvisor and gain more followers, likes & shares.
We are looking for somebody who is highly driven and wants to build a career in social media & community management in the future.
We are looking for somebody who does not need to be micro managed and can take initiative, not simply follow instructions, but make suggestions, try different things and creatively approach the overall goals.
The intern will be required to actively analyze our existing social media presence and look for ways to optimize this.
This does not mean that he/she will personally need to be entirely responsible for daily tweets & updates, although we are looking for someone who is willing to get their ‘hands dirty’..in a social media kind of way of course.
The intern will need to invent different ways to reach a bigger audience and gain bigger engagement.
Some of the tasks to be carried out by the intern:
- Optimize time of publication
- Analysis of the nature of posting to identify most effective formats
- Introduction of new formats, e.g: jokes about scuba diving, daily facts, marine animal of the day, etc.
- Management of our social media coordinator
Discussions with internship coordinator on ways to tie in ‘DiveAdvisor’ as a social network with other social networks.
1. English on a ‘native speaker’ level.
2. In possession or in the process of getting a higher education
3. Passionate about the web, social media, blogging & tech in general
4. Preferably someone who is an avid scuba diver, or at least has been diving before
5. Preferably someone who is passionate about marine biology, marine conservation or marine animals in general
6. Someone who is passionate about travelling
Unlike with a lot of interships, the candidate will gain experience in working with a startup that is truly active in social media and already has a significant base - with enormous potential for growth.
Managing a community for a small to medium business, and even a corporation is rather boring and difficult.
Firstly, there is usually little actual content that can be used.
Secondly, there are many restrictions on the tone and nature of the ‘voice’.
Thirdly, the rigid nature of the organizations rarely allow for much innovation.
DiveAdvisor is the opposite.
We are a small team and are open to suggestions ALWAYS.
We have tons of amazing content to work with.
Your internship will be overseen and managed by Timur…(me) - the founder of the DiveAdvisor project.
A little bit about me.

- Founder of DiveAdvisor
For the last 5 years I have been learning and growing in the digital marketing space, and have had experience in all aspects of the industry - from SEO, to product development, to Social Networks, to Project Management and just plain business administration.
Besides living in the ‘digital’ space, I also manage a real life, analogue business with staff, costs, revenue and problems.
During the course of this mentorship, I will personally mentor you and will be available for questions about everything.
An intern that genuinely helps my project grow, will get all the help that I am able to provide in return - all the experience and knowledge that I have acquired over the years, a recommendation letter and personal introductions to people within my network (not on facebook, in the real world).
I would like to think that there is a lot I can help an aspiring digital marketer with.
Our head office is located in Dubai, UAE and therefore logistically, this will be a ‘remote’ internship, with skype meetings every 3 days and a daily report.
The minimum amount of hours that you have to be willing to contribute is 15 hours per week for atleast 4 weeks.
There will be a format for logging your tasks and hours worked.
At the end of each week I will write a memo of what you have achieved and done during the week.
At the end of the internship you will get a 3-4 page report of what you have worked on and a recommendation letter.
Via info {at} diveadvisor.com or skype ‘timur_kt’
We will schedule an interview and then can proceed.
