Thailand is where it all began, with Green Fins first being implemented here in 2004 through the National Management Team comprised of staff from the Phuket Marine Biological Centre (PMBC), who are managed by the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR). The programme is also supported by local volunteers in Phuket and of course the many Green Fins members across the country made up of dive centres and snokel tour operators. The project has been implemented in the islands and towns of Koh Phi Phi, Koh Lanta, Phuket, Koh Tao, Koh Samui, Krabi, Koh Phra Thong, Takua Pa, Koh Lak, Koh Lipe, Khao Lak and Pattaya and is continuing to grow. The Phuket Marine Biological Centre, led by Green Fins Thailand Netowrk Leader K. Niphon Phongsuwan, has been training SCUBA diving centres and snorkelling centers for many years inspiring beach and coastal clean-ups, coral reef monitoring, improved environmental standards and better education for their customers for many years.
