Chris Paparo (FishGuyPhotos) Born and raised on Long Island (New York), I have been exploring the wilds of the island for over 30 years. As a wildlife photographer, writer and lecturer, I enjoy bringing public awareness to the diverse wildlife that calls the island home. My passion for coastal ecology, fishing and the outdoors led me to obtain a BS in Marine Science from LIU/Southampton and I currently manage the new Marine Sciences Center at the Southampton campus of Stony Brook University. In addition to freelance writing for several fishing and wildlife related publications, I currently writes the monthly Naturalist’s Logbook column for the NY/NJ edition of On The Water Magazine. Although my work tends to focus on marine life, everything in the natural world is fair game. Ellen Cuylaerts (EllenC) Ellen Cuylaerts relocated from Belgium to the Cayman Islands, Grand Cayman in 2009. She studied history in Antwerp and got her master in modern history and education. She homeschools her 2 gifted teenagers and decided to take up scuba diving in June 2011. Soon she took up her childhood dream: photography. Bait balls of the Islas Hormigas marine reserve
The islas Hormigas marine reserve has been protected since 1995, most local divers know about the abundance of marine life that is just waiting to be explored Inside the reserve off the coast of cabo de palos but many foreigners do not know what special marine life you can see here. In any normal day this area boasts the Best scuba diving in Spain, but also recently got the title for best scuba diving in Europe which says a lot about this special area. During later September and early October the marine life is at its most active due to the small fry fish shoals such as sardines and bogas congregating around the underwater reefs inside the park . This abundance of life attracts the predatory fish such as denton, barracuda, jacks, dorada ,and tuna in a feeding frenzy which creates a bait ball effect which is spectacular to watch and one of the areas most special events within the Mediterranean waters.
WRECK DIVING OFF THE COATS OF CABO DE PALOS SPAIN
. A very nice wreck dive and some good penetration areas around the engine room which is home to some big conger eels.
