Advice for diving Snapper's Alley in Greece

At the edge of Kakava reefs, before water becomes too deep, there is an area where Posidonia sea grass, rocks and sandy patches change places. This is where colorful wrasses, brown meagres and all kind of breams find shelter, whilst sea turtles and eagle rays are common visitors, but without a doubt, the stars are the red snappers that are foraging around this alley, preying on the schools of damselfish and parrotfish. Probably the best site to spot a snapper, as they never fail divers, especially from May to July, in early morning dives.

As an off shore dive, boat and dive site should be well marked with dive flag/buoy due to marine traffic of small boats in summer months.

The average depth of the dive is 16m, and the max 22m, for divers of all levels. The usual visibility is 25 m and temperature ranges between 23-25 C in summer months. Occasionally there might be weak currents.

Advice on Diving in Greece

...liday hotspots, the islands are also a mecca for scuba divers, with plenty of dive sites to choose from suitable for all ages and abilities. While the warm weather of the Mediterranean climate has allowed interesting marine life to develop around these waters, many of the sites also hold specific cultural interest that is fascinating to divers. Dive shops and sites are located all over the islands, and each chain offers something a little different. Santorini, one of the Cyclades Islands, lies in the Aegean Sea and is home to a large number of dive sites off its shores, including House Reef, ...
