Additional Notes

In 1981, Pete Butt (Bob’s older brother) started Central Wisconsin’s very first PADI (Professional Association of Dive Instructors) Dive Center located within Hunter’s Corner Sporting Goods on Main Street in Historic Downtown Stevens Point. Bob started scuba diving in 1978 and in 1982 Bob became a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor and opted to continue his college education in Stevens Point.

Hunter’s Corner closed their doors in 1984 and by 1985,  Bob had opened Divepoint Scuba on Post Road in Plover.  A few months after opening the new store he met Carrie, and they were married in 1987. Divepoint relocated three times in the Plover area before moving to Isadore Street in 1990.  In 1994 Bob and Carrie took a scuba diving trip to Hawaii and fell in love with kayaking.  Wanting to add a kayak line, but short of space, Divepoint then returned to Historic Downtown Stevens Point, just across the street from where it all began.

Divepoint Scuba has evolved into an outdoor adventure center with scuba, snorkeling, kayaking, swimwear, backpacking, camping,  and rock climbing equipment.    Divepoint Scuba has been at its current location in Historic Downtown Stevens Point since 1999, and now has expanded into the Wausau area on the beautiful Wisconsin River, just 2 blocks west of Athletic Park.

Divepoint has over 200 kayaks in stock year round,  and we specialize in the “try before you buy” philosophy.  Divepoint currently has 5 ACA certified coatal Kayak Instructors and 3 ACA White Water Instructors. Our Instructors teach kayaking all summer long. (Click on our Kayaking tab for more information)

Divepoint remains your full service PADI Dive Center with over 30 years experience and expertise. We carry the area’s largest selection of high quality diving and snorkeling equipment. Our instructors teach scuba classes year-round, from beginners to specialty courses, at a variety of locations throughout central Wisconsin.
