Diving in western Australia is accessible from Perth, western Australia’s largest city. Perth airport has good travel connections, both domestic and international. Perth’s harbor, called Freemantle, is western Australia’s main harbor and diving Rottnest island happens from here. Exmouth is the gateway to the Ningaloo reef and easy to reach by air from Perth. The airport is located 35 km from Exmouth, but has excellent connections to the town by bus shuttle. Coral Bay, another town at the Ningaloo reef is another great place to dive from. A drive up north from Perth to either Coral Bay or Exmouth is worth it for divers with a bit more time on their hands, since many places of great natural beauty are situated between the towns.
Diving Rottnest Island can be done by joining one of the boat charters from Freemantle. In the summer months of December till February trips will leave most regularly, while in winter trips will leave less frequently. Several operators run Rottnest Island diving trips in Perth. The Perth Diving Academy is located in Balcatta and has an office in Fremantle for boat departures as well.
For diving Perth locally, Dolphin Dive in Freemantle will gladly inform divers on the best local dive sites, and they organize Rottnest diving by boat. Situated in the heart of Freemantle port, they have a convenient location for exploring the best of Perth diving.
Diving Ningaloo reef is easy from both Coral Bay and Exmouth. Ningaloo Reef Dive is situated in Coral Bay and offers a diverse package of tours, including manta ray and whale shark adventures, scenic flight and other Ningaloo Reef dives. A bit further up north, Exmouth Diving Center organizes a variety of reef dives and diving on the Muiron Islands and Mandu wall. Both these dive centers teach courses, offer whale shark tours and can arrange accommodation.
